Rockbox on non-sh1 Archos mp3 players?
General Porting
Many people express their wishes to see Rockbox on other portable players. This page collects some links to player info and interesting projects that may or may not lead to Rockbox being ported. Feel free to start working on them!
New Platforms
There is absolutely no idea to suggest new platforms for the "team" to port Rockbox to. If there is enough interest and skills to port Rockbox to a new platform, it will be done. If not, people expressing their wish to see Rockbox on yet another player does not help much.
If you truly want to see Rockbox happening on a new platform, you should start collecting as much info as possible about it with great detail. Post the info in a wiki page and start figuring out what similarities the new player has with existing supported players. Hopefully you and your friends will get enough info about it to make someone with clues possible to write code for it and eventually start porting Rockbox.
Archos
The Multimedia AV3XX series
http://linav.free.fr/ for Linux on the AV3XX series. (former http://avos.sf.net)
The Multimedia AV4XX series
There is no known effort for a replacement firmware for these players.
Gmini (120, SP, 220, XS200)
Thanks to MichaelDonat works on dissecting and researching on the Gmini (http://www.donat.org/archos/ or #gmemu on irc.freenode.net), Rockbox porting info: GminiPort (this work has stalled)
Gmini 400
This is very different from the Gmini models above. There is no porting work for this going on. You have a chance to become a hero! http://gmini400.com/ seems to have at least some details on the insides.
iriver
H1x0 (H120 & H140) (previously known as iHP-1xx)
Work is progressing on porting Rockbox to the iriver iHP-1xx (H1xx) series HDD-based players. Status of this effort is available here: IriverPort. Additional ifnormation about the iriver port is available on the iriver FAQ page.
H3x0
Most of its hardware is the same as one in the H1x0 series, so porting Rockbox to this should be fairly easy. Serious work on the H3xx cannot start until a bootloader is completed. For the status of the bootloader, refer to this FAQ. Check IriverH3XXHardwareComponents and feel free to add anything you know about unknown components!
iFP
See IriverIfpPort for more information. Basically, there's no port happening; however, information that would be useful for a port
is being collected here. The focus is currently on iFP-1xx/3xx/5xx models: partly because they are widely available, and partly because their hardware is similar.
H10
The hardware in these players are entirely different from the H100 and H300 series so porting to these will be an entire new effort. Except for an attempt to decode the firmware flash, no work has started on this yet. H10 is based on the PortalPlayer chipset, also found in iPods and others. H10 specs in scribbleninja.org.uk's wiki. www.easydigi.com has opened up a H10 and identified some of the components. There are almost 50 pictures of the inside of the H10 in this gallery, so further identification should be possible.
Xclef
HD800
XclefInfo has info, and there's this "open source" project with all research hidden and no source available at http://openjukebox.free.fr/
MT-500
XclefMT500, most recent info at ferenczy.coex.cz/mt-500. If you are interested in this port, feel free to contact me. DawidFerenczy
Apple Ipod
PortalPlayer based players. They made Linux running on Ipod.
Neo
The Neo units are sh1-based ones and the OpenNeo project is a fork off a somewhat old Rockbox. The main thing stopping Rockbox from running on Neo is (probably) only a little initializing code. Rockbox has officially stopped trying to function on the Neo players.
Neuros
Neuros finally did release their firmware as open source. Unfortunately, there is no freely available development environment to build it yet, but a GCC port is on its way. Nevertheless, you can build your own firmware using a 90 days evaluation version of the TI compiler. See http://open.neurosaudio.com/ and http://neuros-firmware.sourceforge.net/ for more info.
Unfortunately, the firmware is not available for download at the moment due to licensing problems with Texas Instruments.
iAudio
The hard-disk based players from iAudio, named M3, M5 and X5 (same with color LCD), are at least claimed to be running coldfire and their similarity to iRiver spec-wise could be taken as a hint that it is correct.
M3's CPU for sure is ColdFire V2 core, and more, its hardware is very simillar to Iriver's one.
See IaudioPort for more details.
Note: the iAudio has two versions: normal and L (with bigger battery), most likely the only difference is the battery so it won't be an issue... ;)
mpio
HD 300
mpio is a korean company which makes hard drive and flash based players very similar in spec to iriver.
The HD 300 appears suspiciously similar to the iAudio M3 and IHP-1xx.
TerraTec M3Po and Oscar
The TerraTec M3Po and the Oscar seem to be very equal as the last Oscar-Firmware is known to run on the TerraTec unit as well. These are both hifi-mp3-cd-players with an optional hard-disk and seem to be based on the SH1 as well, like the already supported archos units (It even looks to be closer to the NEO hardware). From what I know no porting effort has yet been done. There are several rockbox-usern known to have an m3po as well (ManuelDejonghe and Joerch at least).
